Volunteer Opportunity – Family Support & Children’s Activity Volunteer

Commitment Terms: 6 months

About Us: We are a Wickford-based charity dedicated to supporting neurodivergent children, young people, and their families. Our goal is to continue offering and expanding the vital services and support that we offer.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has a genuine interest in supporting families, parents, carers, and children
  • Understands (or is willing to learn about) neurodiversity and the unique needs of neurodivergent children and families
  • Is a good listener, able to offer empathy and support without giving advice or judgement
  • Is non-judgemental and respectful of different family experiences, backgrounds, and perspectives
  • Can respond calmly and flexibly to changing situations or the needs of the group
  • Communicates clearly and sensitively with both adults and children
  • Is approachable, friendly, and able to help create a welcoming and inclusive environment
  • Works well as part of a team and is willing to take direction when needed
  • Is reliable, punctual, and able to commit to regular volunteering sessions
  • Understands the importance of confidentiality and safeguarding in a support setting

What you’ll do:

  • Support the smooth running of parent and carer support groups
  • Welcome families as they arrive and help create a warm, inclusive atmosphere
  • Engage with parents and carers, offering a listening ear and friendly conversation
  • Assist with the setup and tidy-up of session spaces, including refreshments and resources
  • Support the delivery of children’s activities – including play, crafts, or sensory activities
  • Help ensure the safety and wellbeing of children during sessions
  • Work alongside staff and other volunteers as part of a supportive team
  • Respect confidentiality and safeguarding procedures at all times

The ideal volunteer will be required to:

  • Complete relevant training to help ensure the smooth running of our services and to support a safe, effective environment for everyone involved
  • Undergo a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check
  • Provide references
